HELEN Merfield, CEO of Health & Case Management (HCML), the market leading rehabilitation case management and vocational services provider, has expanded her remit by taking on the additional role of Clinical Director.
Commenting on her additional role, Helen said:

“I’ll be taking a proactive approach to the continuous improvement of processes on the clinical side of the business.

“It will involve speaking to our clients and the market generally and driving forward our service offering.”

HCML is currently enjoying the most progressive period in its history.

Over the last 12 months, the fast expanding company has focused heavily on investment, consolidation and further market need analysis to ensure its proposition matches that of the evolving rehabilitation market.

Helen added:
"The issue of standards and accreditation is still top of the agenda for insurers and other users of
rehabilitation case management. HCML is currently investing heavily in trying to establish the highest standards with guidance from two key members of our Medical Advisory Board, Professor Kim Burton and Dr. Nick Kendall.

“We are still a growing business in a new and evolving market. We realise that only through productive dialogue with our clients can we continue to deliver mutual success and we continue to look ahead and develop new models that help address some of the barriers our clients are facing.”
About the development of standards, Doctor Nick Kendall, former Clinical Director of Pain Management Services in Christchurch and now an independent Health Services Consultant and a member of HCML's Medical Advisory Board, said:

"Case management is an important profession that offers unique skills to clients and other key stakeholders – such as employers, clinicians, and legal advisers - to facilitate their rehabilitation and return to productive activity following injury or disease.

"The development of professional standards is a critical part of the steadily maturing and improving
services provided by HCML and the industry as a whole."

Doctor Kendal concluded:

"Standards provide the basis for training staff, auditing the quality of services delivered, and their
effectiveness. They allow the establishment of quality benchmarks that are intended to ensure HCML maintains its position at the forefront of case management service in the UK, and ensures continuing development of best professional practice.

“The HCML standards project will be completed in a few months.”
